Is the rain bringing you down this spring? If the expression, "April showers, brings May flowers," isn't helping, consider these 5 ways you can enjoy the rain this April. Put on your rain boots and weather-proof jackets, everyone, and get ready to splash in a puddle or two.
1) Listen to rainy day music.
Something about listening to "Riders on the Storm" by the Doors can set just the right mood for a rainy day. In fact, Mashable put together an excellent playlist for rainy days that will help you get in the right mood. If that doesn’t get you in the mood, seek out a few jazz playlists as well. Music soothes the soul and will put you in the mood for a rainy day.
2) Spring clean.
No, you don't need the sunshine to spring clean. Sure, the scent of furniture polish goes well with a sunny day, but you can still appreciate a fresh home, no matter the weather. Tackle one room at a time and donate anything you no longer want. Add fresh flowers to a few rooms and toss in a new throw pillow or two here and there. Small touches like this is sure to set your heart in the right direction.
3) Try something new.
Whether it's a class at the local community college or even picking up a new book, trying something new this time of year can help you fight off the rainy day blues. Make sure to challenge yourself too, especially taking on something outside of your usual comfort zone. Soon, you'll completely forget about the rain.
4) Take on a Pinterest challenge.
Did you pin a recipe you keep wanting to try? How about a craft that you are certain you could do? Or maybe a trip you keep meaning to plan, but all you are doing is adding to your pin board and dreaming about it? Take on a Pinterest challenge and try out that recipe! Start that craft. Plan that trip. Spring is the season for growth and renewing your spirit. The rain is doing it for the flowers, so it's time for you to do it for your soul.
5) Make sure to play.
Whether it's jumping in a puddle or bringing out a few classic board games, take time to play this rainy season. If you have an itching desire to get out of your house, visit a local pet shelter and volunteer your time. That's sure to boost your spirit and maybe you'll even come home with a furry friend.
Rainy days may seem bleak and long, but don't worry, the sunshine is just around the corner. In the meantime, be sure to enjoy the rainy season while it's here and appreciate what that glorious rain is doing for the Earth.
