One of the hardest things for me to give up when first going vegan was milk. Although it seems strange now – and super gross! – I used to drink a glass or two of milk every single day. Of course, that’s not exactly the norm. But milk is still an extremely common ingredient in other daily favorites like coffee, ice cream, and cereals. Luckily, there are several different dairy-free milk alternatives to choose from. Check out this guide for a rundown on the most common milk substitutes, and let us know which ones you prefer!
By now, everyone has heard the buzz about Burger King’s new Impossible Whopper. The burger contains all the same fixings as the classic Whopper sandwich, except the beef is replaced with a plant-based patty. This is a huge step towards the inclusion of more cruelty-free alternatives in popular food chains, where vegan customers oftentimes find themselves having to fill up on fries and bland side salads. However, many are still skeptical of whether this burger is all that it’s made out to be. After giving it a try for myself, here are some of my thoughts about the new Impossible Whopper.
Being a vegan in a society that is still so wrapped-up in omnivorous eating has its challenges. One of the most trying situations for any cruelty-free eater is when others try to tell us everything that’s “wrong” with our diet. After a certain point in veganism, you really hear it all. Next time you’re stuck at the bar with some guy droning on about why your body “needs meat” or your parents are trying to pick apart your grocery budget, here are some quick facts to help with your rebuttal.
One of the biggest misconceptions about vegans is that we’re all super health conscious. While this may be true for some, there are plenty who change their diet for other reasons such as ethics or spirituality. When I initially went vegan, health was not my main concern – and it showed by how I shamelessly snacked on Oreos and potato chips like my life depended on it. But after being diagnosed with an endocrine disorder that caused extremely painful inflammation in my body, I knew I had to sacrifice my snacks and make some additional alterations in my eating habits. Here are some tips I’ve gathered over the years that have helped me (mostly!) successfully stay on an anti-inflammatory vegan diet.
